Cheshire Couple Killed In Crash

Three people, including a husband and wife, have been killed in a crash involving two cars.

John and Jean Gilleland, both 76, from the Chester area of Cheshire, died at the scene of the accident in North Wales.

David Lesley Crapper, 56, a passenger in the other car, died of his injuries at Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital in Bangor. The female driver of the Land Rover Freelander, in which Mr Crapper was a passenger, is in hospital in a serious but stable condition. The crash happened at 3.40pm on Friday on the A470, near Maenan, Llanrwst, Conwy.

Mr and Mrs Gilleland were in a Vauxhall Meriva, which was being driven in the general direction of Llanrwst. They were regular visitors to the local area. The Freelander was travelling in the opposite direction.

Police are appealing for the male driver of a red Vauxhall Vectra who was travelling from Llanrwst in the general direction of Llandudno at the time of the incident, who is a significant witness, to contact police as a matter of urgency.
