Bolton Murder Hunt

Emergency services were called out to Farnworth in Bolton by the ambulance service yesterday afternoon.

Police found the body of a 31year old woman, but she hasn't yet been formally identified.

Detectives say they think it was a targetted attack and have launched a murder investigation.

Superintendent Steve Nibloe said: "Clearly there will be very understandable anxiety in this community at the death of this young woman.

"First and foremost our thoughts are with this woman's family following her tragic death.

"Although this investigation is only a few hours old, I want to try and reassure people who may be concerned that at this stage we do not believe this was a random attack. We know people will be shocked and upset and even worried, but I would like to stress that there is no reason for them to be fearful.

"However, there will be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days so I would urge anyone with concerns to approach an officer and speak to them, in confidence if needed.

"Our inquiry is now focused on trying to locate the person or persons responsible and I would also appeal to anyone who has information to come forward."
