A man has been sentenced after sneaking up behind two women in Manchester and cutting of their hair.

48 year old Darren Dixon of Gore Crescent in Salford received a three year community order at Manchester Crown Court today.

He was also given a three year ASBO that does not allow him to carry scissors or hair cutting equipment in a public place.

In September last year, Dixon went up behind the 19-year-old victim who was walking along Wilmslow Road in Fallowfield.

She noticed him following her and she felt him touch her hair and heard a metallic sound.

When she turned round he was picking up the scissors and clumps of her hair, she then ran off.

The second time it happened was in October, then the victim was shopping in the Asda store on Traders Avenue in Trafford when she stopped to look at shampoo.

She noticed Dixon stood behind her, she heard a noise and saw him walking away, then it happened again and she turned to see some of her hair under his foot.

He apologised and walked off, dragging the hair with his foot before picking it up and walking off.

Dixon was later arrested.

Detective Constable Lawrence Gallagher from Longsight CID said: “This was a bizarre case and Dixon has never shown any indication as to why he carried out these assaults and for what purpose.

“By carrying out these attacks, he has severely knocked the confidence of both victims. Even though he did not hurt them, it will take them a while for them to get over it.”
