Assault Death In Ashton-under-Lyne

Greater Manchester Police investigating an assault in Ashton-under-Lyne where a man died have charged a man with manslaughter.

Just after 2am on Sunday 17 April 2011, police were called to the Ladysmith pub on Wellington Road, following reports a man had been assaulted.

Officers discovered Stephen Shaw, aged 57, had suffered serious head injuries.

He was taken to hospital but never recovered from his injuries and died early this morning, Monday 18 April 2011.

A Home Office post mortem to establish the exact cause of death is due to take place later today.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter. Robert Leigh from Bradford is due in court tomorrow.
