Arrest over attempted mugging in Fallowfield

A man has been arrested after police released CCTV footage of an attempted robbery in Fallowfield.

Shortly after 12 noon on Thursday 9 May 2019 a man dismounted a bicycle while riding along Wilbraham Road, Fallowfield and attempted to steal gold bangles from the wrist of a woman in her 70s.

The man was chased off by a passing taxi driver and didn’t steal any items from the woman, who sustained bruising injuries.

A man aged 46 has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and released under investigation.

Police are continuing to appeal for information following the incident.

Constable Daniel Cox of GMP’s City of Manchester Division said: “I’d like to thank those people who have already been in touch with us following our earlier appeal.

“While we have made an arrest, we are still keen to speak to anyone with may have witnessed or has any information about this crime.”
