A 25 year old man was shot dead in Wavertree on Wednesday night.
Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man in Wavertree last night are appealing for people to come forward with information.
At 10.40pm, officers were called to Alderson Road to a report of a man in his 20s having been shot. Armed officers and the ambulance service attended and the man was taken to hospital where he died a short while later from the injuries he sustained
The victim had just got out of a taxi on Alderson Road when the shooting occurred – at this stage it is not know if the offender was on foot, or in a vehicle. Although a dark car was seen being driven erratically in the area soon afterwards
Crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic inquiries at the scene and house-to-house enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward at the earliest opportunity.
Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Green, said: "Last night a young man tragically lost his life following a shooting in Wavertree and a family are now trying to come to terms with the loss of their son and brother.
"Today specialist Family Liaison Officers are supporting the family and detectives are working to establish a motive for the shooting.
"We owe it to the families of this man to make sure that we do everything we can to find the person, or people responsible. But we also owe it to our communities, who live in the areas where these discharges have taken place, to tackle these people who have a complete and utter disregard for others."
He added: "I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have seen the incident or seen anyone making off on foot or in a vehicle immediately after, possibly in the direction of Lawrence Road to come forward.
"I am particularly interested in anyone who may have seen a dark coloured car being driven erratically on Lawrence Road shortly after the shooting. The car was involved collided with a red Vauxhall Corsa and failed to stop at the scene. If you witnessed that collision, or have dashcam/CCTV footage, or information that could help us with our inquiries please call us, the information you have could be vital to our investigation.
"We also received reports of a dark coloured car being driven erratically in the Childwall Fiveways area in the hours prior to the incident and again I would urge anyone with information, or dashcam/CCTV footage to contact us.
"Finally, a black Audi Quattro S3, was found burnt out on Abbeystead Road, Wavertree just after 6.30am this morning. We know that this car was stolen from an address in Derby on 30 August and again I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the car being abandoned and set alight by the offenders as this information could be crucial.
"Gun crime causes fear and harm in our communities and our resolve to take those responsible and their weapons off the streets is as relentless as ever.
"However you get information to us, whether it is directly to police, or anonymously through Crimestoppers, please tell us. We will take action on all information we receive in order to put those people involved in gun crime behind bars and make our communities affected safer and stronger."
