Online Stalking
Capital's been told people in our region have had more training than any other region in the country.
Much of it is down to digital stalking expert Jennifer Perry – who's been running loads of sessions throughout Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire over the last couple of years.
The training involves raising awareness of the signs of online stalking, and what people can do if they think they're being stalked.
Signs:
Jennifer says anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, and question what is happening, can fall under online stalking.
The most common problem people experience is with others knowing their passwords – and using those passwords in ways they don't want.
Watch out for controlling behaviour, threatening messages, and rumour spreading.
Things you can do:
- Be careful what you put online – set privacy settings to highest and don't put out any personal information, especially to strangers.
- Block any abuser.
- Get anti spy ware products on your computer.
- Turn off your location services on your mobile – people can find out where you are if they are on.
