Three men have been jailed for a total of five years following an investigation into the trafficking of young women into Derbyshire.
Gurdeep Singh, 52 and Tajinder Singh, 33 from Wolverhampton pleaded guilty to two counts of Human Trafficking into the UK for Sexual Explotation. Kulvinder Singh, 44 from Ripley also pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Derby Crown Court.
Two women from Latvia were contacted via a dating site and agreed to come to the UK after being promised a sightseeing tour of London. Staff at a Premier Inn, where the two women were staying, alerted the police because of suspicious activity at the hotel.
It was later revealed that one of the Latvian women were sexually assaulted during her stay in the UK last October. Detective Sergeant Steve Roberts, said 'This is the first case of human trafficking into the UK that Derbyshire police have dealt with.
These convictions would not have been possible without the bravery of the victims and the quick thinking of the Premier Inn staff.' 'We would like to appeal to hotels in the county to look out for suspicious activity and report anything of concern to the police.'
