Leicester Spitting Ban
From 1 February,£80 fine will be handed to anyone caught spitting in the street, anywhere in Leicester.
A recent public consultation on the issue attracted nearly 1,200 responses and found that more than 95% of people who responded were in favour of introducing fines to tackle spitting.
Cllr Sarah Russell, assistant city mayor for neighbourhood services, said: "We've listened to people's views and it's clear that they want us to tackle this, so I'm pleased that we will be introducing these measures from 1 February.
"Spitting in the street is a filthy habit and it's an issue that people often raise with us as a problem, so I'm very pleased that we are able to use the powers available to us to do something about it."
The fines will be handed out by the Leicester City Council's team of city wardens.
