Fifty EDL supporters have been jailed for more than 75 years after violence at a protest in Birmingham.

Three men from the East Midlands, who travelled to join the campaign in July 2013, are amongst the men starting prison sentences.

46-year-old Melvyn Parker of Mewtondale Avenue in Mansfield got 24 months as did 27-year-old Shane Williams of Dragons Lane in Leicester and 22-year-old Benjamin Crowder of Lumsdale Crescent, Matlock.

Threw bricks and kicked police dogs

After protestors listened to speeches and displayed their flags, some of the 2000 supporters got violent throwing bricks at police who were trying to keep order.

Some police officers were hurt as they tried to control the crowd.
