DeMontfort Uni students celebrate talents with big fashion show
Among the students showcasing their work will be third year Fashion Design student Shavani Chavda, who won this year’s Clothes Show Live Designer of the Year competition with her hand-illustrated fabric prints.
Another winner, this time of the Fashion Awareness Direct competition at London Fashion Week, Laura Carew-Gibson, will be featuring her award-winning pieces, themed around ‘Escape’ with a Los Angeles beach feel.
Contour (lingerie) student Penny Newton, who recently gained a 1st Class degree and won the Christopherson Award for Design Innovation, will be showcasing her white body-con pieces that represent the internal workings of the body from the musculature to red stitching representing veins. Her work had been modelled by Sophie Anderton and is currently showing at the Houses of Parliament.
Della Swain, programme leader from De Montfort University said “This is a brilliant opportunity for our design students to show their work and receive constructive feedback from members of the public with a strong interest in fashion. Having a Fashion Week at Highcross gives the city a focal point for showing off its design talent and stylish locals. Our students have done so well this year, it seems only fitting that we celebrate their success as a city.”
