Former Notts Officer who accessed info about girlfriends and family jailed for 8 months.
An ex Nottinghamshire Police officer - who did nearly 500 searches on police databases - looking at his girlfriends, their families, and even his own children - has been jailed for 8 months.
47 year old Robert Kirk from West Bridgford looked up the information over eight years....the force say today's sentence sends a clear message that no-one is above the law.
Investigating officer DI Rob Allison: "The sentence handed down to Robert Kirk today should send a clear message that no one is above the law. As we have stated before, Kirk repeatedly exploited his position, which gave him access to confidential information not just about the individuals he had become personally involved with, but potentially, many thousands of people.
Trust and integrity are paramount to the police service, and action will be take against those individuals whose conduct falls below the standard that the public would expect of officers. If their actions have broken the law in any way, then we will have no hesitation in commencing a full investigation and working with the Crown Prosecution Service to prosecute that person.
That is what has happened to Robert Kirk. After 25 years? service he has lost has job and now he must serve a prison sentence, which is perhaps the greatest indignity to befall any serving police officer."
