The 48 year old retired police officer was given an eight month jail sentence suspended for two years.
A retired police officer who admitted making indecent images of children has been handed a suspended jail term.
Former Nottinghamshire Pc Lee Bowditch, 48, was given an eight-month sentence, suspended for two years, during a hearing at Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday.
Bowditch had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of children and two counts of attempting to engage a child in sexual communication, Nottinghamshire Police said.
The ex-officer was also given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and placed on the sex offenders' register for the same period.
In a statement issued in February, the Nottinghamshire force said Bowditch, who was based in Newark, was arrested in April 2018 after he engaged with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl on a dating site chat room.
