East Midlands Airport is back open after a plane had problems landing closing the runway.

Bosses at East Midlands Airport have told capitalfm.com that 9,000 passengers and 90 flights were affected by the runway closure yesterday.

It had to be shut after after a cargo plane got into difficulties while landing.

The airport's back open as normal now but managers say there's still a chance of some changes to the flight schedule.

An East Midlands spokesman said:

'Following a suspension of flights earlier today due to an issue with a cargo flight after landing, East Midlands Airport is now fully operational.

'The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB)has now conducted a full investigation and the aircraft has been moved from its location on the runway.

'We would like to thank all our passengers for their patience throughout today and offer apologies for the inconvenience caused.

'As we return to normal operations, it is possible that there may be some changes to the flight schedule and we would encourage passengers to contact their airline and check our website for the latest information on their travel.'
