The Concert Hall is part of a scheme to improve Derby's sporting venues so it would mainly be a sports arena but will double up as a venue for live music seating 4 thousand people.
It's all up for discussion at a council meeting next week, but The Park and Ride car park at Pride Park has been identified as the preferred site for the Multi Sports Arena. This site is owned by Derby City Council.
Then Network Rail Wyvern land as its second preferred site should their first choice fall through. The Sports Arena will include a 12 court sports hall and a 250m cycling track.
On top of that venue two sites have been identified for a 50m swimming pool, plans for that show a floating floor, a fun pool, a training pool and a fitness suite.
The sites though are either part of the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary decommissioned site or part of the Riverlights site. Discussions with the relevant owners are ongoing. A final decision on the choice of site is expected in June 2011.
The Council also plans to improve sporting facilities citywide with satellite sites in the North, South, East and West areas of the city.
If a location is confirmed next Tuesday construction of the Multi Sports Arena is due to start in June 2012 and is expected to be completed within two years.
