Warning After Five Ill After Taking Drugs On New Year

Police in Birmingham say they're worried that other people may have bought a 'bad batch' of illegal drugs after five people were taken to hospital.

They were sent to hospital during a party being held at the Rainbow Venues, Digbeth, sometime between New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Detectives at West Midlands Police say they think a 'bad batch' of a class A drug was being sold in the venue on the night.

It's thought it was a tablet being sold by two men and woman.

One man is currently in a critical condition in hospital whilst another is said to be stable. Two other men and a woman have been treated and discharged.

A spokesperson at West Midlands Police said: "At this stage we believe the drug was in the form of a tablet and was being distributed inside the club by a man and a woman, both of mixed race, and a white man wearing a fluorescent jacket.

"Any users are urged to exercise extreme caution and dial 999 at the first sign of becoming unwell.

"Anyone who was at the club last night and has any information that could help us should contact Detective Sergeant Clare Burman on 101 as soon as possible."
