Vandalism has led to severe disruption to train services in the West Midlands.
London Midland is unable to operate services between Birmingham International and Coventry, while services operated by Virgin Trains and CrossCountry are also affected.
London Midland said that just after 12.30am its control team was alerted to a number of signal failures between Canley and Hampton in Arden.
When they arrived at the scene they were told by Network Rail the damage had been caused by a cable fire and that a second fire had been started in the Tile Hill area.
London Midland said: "This has caused significant damage to the signalling infrastructure, with over 20 cables heavily damaged in the first reported line side fire.''
Some Virgin Trains' services may be cancelled and others could be delayed by up to 60 minutes. The disruption comes as passengers are having to contend with a number of delays and cancellations on the rail network due to planned bank holiday weekend engineering work.
