A Serious Case Review is going to be launched into the death of a toddler in Birmingham.
2 year old Keanu Williams died from non-accidental injuries on Sunday the 9th of January in the Ward End area of the city.
The family were known to social services.
Hilary Thompson, independent chair of the safeguarding board, said: "Following a meeting of relevant professionals, and on advice, I have decided that a serious case review will be conducted into the death on Sunday of a two-year-old boy in the Ward End area of Birmingham. It will be conducted under statutory guidelines and published in due course."
A 29 year old man and a 22 year-old woman arrested over the toddlers death have been released on police bail.
Keanu, known to family and friends as 'Kiwi', was taken to hospital at 7.42pm on Sunday evening from an address in Old Moat Way, Ward End, Birmingham. He was pronounced dead at hospital.
A forensic post mortem held on Tuesday indicated that the child died from non-accidental injuries.
Family liaison officers continue to support the family during this difficult time.
