Police are investigating an attempted abduction after two 14-year-old girls were approached in Acocks Green.

The girls were walking home from school along Station Road at around 6.15pm on Friday (3 May) when they noticed a van being driven suspiciously.

Although the van drove off two men appeared moments later and tried to drag the girls away.

They managed to scream for help and a passer-by came to their assistance; the men ran off in the direction of Warwick Road.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Kiteley said: “This was a disturbing incident involving two young girls and we are making enquiries to trace the white van and the two men.

"I’m also hoping to find the man who helped the girls and scared away their attackers. His information may prove vital to the ongoing investigation."

The girls stated the men had their faces covered but believed they spoke in a foreign language.

CCTV enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and those with information to come forward.

Det. Insp Kiteley added: “We understand incidents like this are a cause for concern. I’d like to assure the local community that we’re increasing patrols and liaising with local schools to make sure people feel safe.

“I’d ask children and parents alike to remain vigilant, be aware of their personal safety and to report any suspicious incidents to the police."
