Man Comes Forward After CCTV Appeal Over Attack On Watford Fan In Wolverhampton

A man's come forward to police after CCTV images were released of someone officers wanted to speak to over an attack on a Watford fan in Wolverhampton.

West Midlands Police said the 20-year-old man had identified himself to officers conducting inquiries into the attack on Watford fan Nic Cruwys.

The force issued an appeal yesterday for information to trace a man who was believed to be from the Telford area of Shropshire.

Mr Cruwys, from Hemel Hempstead, suffered a serious head injury after being set upon by a group of youths in Wolverhampton on March 7 following a Championship fixture.

The 44-year-old, who was taken to hospital in a critical condition, is awaiting a placement at a specialist rehabilitation unit.

Detective Inspector Toni Naylor, who is leading the inquiry, said: "As a result of police releasing the image of a man we wanted to identify in relation to the assault, a man telephoned officers in Wolverhampton last night and we will be speaking to him later today.

"The investigation remains ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to call police."

A total of 12 people have been arrested and bailed in connection with the assault.
