Man Charged After Women Held Hostage In Digbeth
A man has been charged with false imprisonment and wounding after two women were held hostage at a Digbeth charity on Wednesday.
Michal Malecki, aged 31 and of no fixed address, will appear before Birmingham Magistrates later today after the two women were held in an office at Bita Pathways in Alcester Street, Digbeth for over four hours on Wednesday.
West Midlands Police cordoned off the road outside the building and evacuated the surrounding area while a force negotiator brought the incident to an end.
Both women are receiving support following their ordeal. The first woman to be released has received hospital treatment for injuries to her arm and neck.
Chief Inspector Sean Russell, from Force CID, said: "Fortunately these types of incidents are rare and the individual concerned has been charged with a number of very serious offences and will be appearing at court today. It is understood that he had no prior connection with the charity and this would appear to have been a random incident.
"We would like to thank the public for their patience and support while we dealt with this incident, particularly the wedding party at a neighbouring venue."
