M6 tanker fire between Birmingham and Coventry

10 people have been treated for breathing difficulties after a fire involving a chemical tanker on the M6 between Birmingham and Coventry.

The road is closed in both directions between Junctions 3 and 4 with heavy traffic in the surrounding area. The Highways agency say they are aiming to reopen the stretch of motorway by  1700 on Wednesday December 12th.

The fire started at around  0930 this morning, when a tyre on the lorry blew out.

An 800 meter exclusion zone has been put in place, with around 100 motorists who had to evacuate their cars taken to Corley services.
