Ellie Simmonds proud of her OBE

Black Country swimmer Ellie Simmonds, the poster girl of this year's Paralympic Games, has said she's proud to be awarded an OBE.

The 18 year old from Walsall won two more golds at London 2012 making her a four-time Paralympic champion. She said: ``It's been a great honour to be included in the list which caps an amazing year for me personally and for British sport.''

Ellie was not the only sporting hero on the Queen's New Year's Honours List, Bradley Wiggins has been given a knighthood. Sarah Storey, Jess Ennis, Victoria Pendleton, Mo Farah and David Weir are also on the list.

Ellie who currently holds five world records, has taken a break from her training regime since the Paralympics, but will restart after Christmas ahead of the World Championships in Canada in the summer.

She is targeting not just the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, but the 2020 and 2024 Games beyond that.
