Dudley Man Jailed For Killing Pedestrian At More Than Double The Speed Limit

A driver from Dudley who killed a 53-year-old after doing 73mph in a 30mph area has been jailed for more than 4 years.

22-year-old Jordan Edwards careered into Gary Wroblewski, as he walked on the pavement in November last year.

He fled the scene and only handed himself into police 3 months later.

He abandoned the Seat Ibiza after the collision and fled the scene - giving no help to Mr Wroblewski, who died from his injuries.

Edwards had never passed a driving test only handed himself into police this February after pressure from his family. 

He initially claimed a fault with the car was to blame for the collision; but an assessment carried out as part of the investigation showed no defects.

Edwards, of Salop Street, Dudley, pleaded guilty to death by dangerous driving and was jailed for four years and nine months at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday 3 May).

He was also disqualified from driving for six years.

PC Chris Ridge, from West Midlands Police collision investigation unit, said: “Mr Wroblewski was an innocent victim of this reckless driving.

“Edwards has never passed a driving test, and did not have any insurance, but still chose to drive the Seat at over double the speed limit. 

“He cowardly fled from the scene and only came forward four months after the collision due to pressure from his family. 

“During police interview he stated that there must have been something wrong with the steering and brakes on the Seat which caused the crash. However, a vehicle examiner found the Seat was in good mechanical order with no defects.

“He showed a complete disregard for others and left a devastated family still trying to cope with the loss of a loved one.”
