Police say a man they want to speak to may not be aware he left a person in Birmingham with severe head injuries.

A 32 year-old was hurt after someone ran up and pushed him from behind in Summer Row in the early hours of December 27.

Detectives began an investigation into what they say was a "seemingly unprovoked attack" and have now released a CCTV image of a person they want to speak to about it.

PC David Sherlock, from Birmingham’s Violent Crime Team, said: "We have identified someone as a result of our enquires that we need to speak to as a matter of urgency.

"This seemingly senseless attack has caused a great deal of pain to the victim and his young family which will affect him for the rest of his life.

"It is entirely plausible that the man involved is not aware of the severity of injury he has caused to an innocent man and may have been intoxicated at the time.

"We are appealing to the better nature of this man or anyone who knows who he might be to come forward to speak to us so that we can progress this matter and come to a suitable resolution for all parties involved."
