Remi Garde

Aston Villa have thanked Rémi Garde for his time as manager. He has left the club by 'mutual consent'

Villa remain bottom of the Premier League with just a handful of matches left.

The club has released a statement on their website:

"Manager, Rémi Garde, has today left Aston Villa Football Club by mutual consent.

"The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Rémi for all his efforts during a difficult period and wish him well in the future.

"Eric Black will take over as acting manager until the Club appoints a new manager.

"There will be no further comment from the Club at this stage."

Garde has won just two of his 20 Premier League games in charge and had express frustration that he wasn't able to buy more players in the January transfer window.

Chief executive Tom Fox and sporting director Hendrik Almstadt left the club earlier this month.

The next match for the club is against Chelsea this weekend.

William Hill have already published odds on who they believe will be the next manager and have made Nigel Pearson the favourite.
