Arrest After Birmingham Cleaver Attack

A man accused of almost severing another man’s arm with a meat cleaver following a row at a Birmingham soup kitchen has been remanded in prison after being arrested by West Midlands Police.
Darren Martin was detained by officers in Birmingham city centre on Thursday afternoon and arrested in connection with an attack in New Canal Street, Digbeth, on the evening of 3 August.
It’s alleged the 27-year-old, of no fixed address, slashed a man’s arm with a cleaver and also struck his girlfriend over the head.
Suspected meat cleaver attacker Darren Martin remanded in prison and due to appear in court in JanuaryIt was initially feared the man may lose his arm but surgeons managed to save it, while the woman needed treatment for a deep laceration to her forehead.
Martin was charged with wounding, assault, affray and possessing an offensive weapon in public.
He appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Friday (14 Dec) where he was remanded into prison ahead of his next appearance at the city’s crown court on 11 January.
