The 'Firework' star says she thinks it's a good thing that both stars have songs out at the same time.
Katy Perry has opened up about her new chart battle with Lady Gaga and says she thinks it's "healthy" to have a bit of competition from your pop peers.
The 'Wide Awake' singer unveiled her new single 'Roar' at the weekend before a speedy release in America, with a UK release to follow in September, while Lady Gaga was forced to rush-release her new song 'Applause' this week after a series of online leaks.
Katy opened up about the timing of the two pop star heavyweight's respective releases and says she thinks it's a good thing to keep them "on our toes".
"It's all about the music and I really agree with her message," Katy told America's AMP Radio this week, about the pair's new chart battle. 'I've always been a fan of hers and I like to see her evolution.
"I think that's also nice that we're all in the same kind of cycle together because it really keeps us both on our toes," the 'California Gurls' star explained. 'It's not that we feel competition, it's that we keep each other on each other's toes and it's a healthy thing."

Katy Perry is set to release 'Roar' in the UK on 8th September with new album 'Prism' following this autumn, while Lady Gaga's new song 'Applause' is set to be released in the UK soon with her album 'ARTPOP' launching 11th November.
