Man Attacked With Plank Of Wood

Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was assaulted with a plank of wood.

It happened at a house in  Villiers Road, Shirley, yesterday (April 6th), sometime between 2pm and 2.25pm.

An altercation took place between two men known to each other with one hitting the other over the head with a piece of wood.  This led to a 53 year old local man receiving treatment to an open head wound, at Southampton General Hospital.  He was not seriously injured.

Investigating officers want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the offender leave the scene, heading north along Heysham Road in the direction towards Foundry Lane.  

Officers are also asking people to contact them if they have found or seen a piece of discarded wood about two feet in length in their gardens or along the street.  If they have, they should not handle it but contact Shirley CID.

The offender is described as:

White

Aged late 40’s early 50’s

5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins tall

Slim build

Black collar length wavy/curly hair

He was wearing a black jacket, possibly of shell suit material with a hood rolled up into the collar and blue jeans.
