Rolls-Royce To Spend £60m In Renfrewshire

Rolls-Royce has announced plans to invest up to £60 million in its Renfrewshire plant.

The company said its facility at Inchinnan will host a new "centre of competence'' for the manufacture of aerofoils, and engine shafts will also be produced there.

The investment will help mitigate the impact of around 190 job losses announced earlier this year as part of the Derby-based firm's restructuring of its aerospace programme.

Renfrewshire Council leader Mark Macmillan said: "This significant investment is a tremendous vote of confidence in the workers and management at the Inchinnan plant.

"For a world-leading manufacturer to choose Renfrewshire as a focus for further investment is also a tremendous boost for the Renfrewshire economy.''

The new centre will manufacture aerofoils for Rolls-Royce engines that are no longer produced in high volume.

Inchinnan will also be responsible for the production of components found in all Rolls-Royce aero engines.

Mike Mosley, chief operating officer for the supply chain division, said: "Our investment in Inchinnan demonstrates our commitment to innovative technology and world-class facilities which will improve performance and drive profitable growth for our business.

"We recognise the dedication and flexibility of the Inchinnan workforce who continue to play a key role in the success of Rolls-Royce.''

The company announced in March that 187 posts would go at the Renfrewshire site.
