A Rochdale man's been jailed for four years for a late night attack which left a Royal Marine dead.

Reece Kay, 20, punched Wesley Clutterbuck in the early hours of Saturday June 29th, after an argument outside a bar in Rochdale town centre.

The victim, 19 and from Whitworth, was knocked unconscious after falling to the floor and banging his head.

Kay, from Waithlands Road, Rochdale, admitted manslaughter.

Senior Investigating Officer Duncan Thorpe said: "This was a mindless unprovoked attack which ended in tragedy.

"It only takes one punch to kill someone and cause so much anguish.

"Wesley’s parents, family and friends were all extremely proud of his achievements; to lose a loved one in this way is totally devastating.

"Whatever sentence is imposed it will not compensate for their loss."
