Police have confirmed a body discovered in a river is that of missing Stockport man Michael Simpson.
The 22-year-old was last seen leaving a friend's house party on Stockport Road West in Bredbury in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Shortly before 2.30pm on Wednesday 9 January 2013, specialist officers searching the River Goyt found his body near to the Pear Mill Industrial Estate.
Michael's family have been told.
Detective Inspector Julia Bowden from Stockport CID said:
"Our thoughts and condolences are with Michael's family at this devastating time after we have today identified him as the man found in water in Bredbury yesterday afternoon. Our officers are doing all they can to support Michael's family.
"We do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding Michael's death and a file will be submitted to the Coroner in due course."
