Hep-C Checklist

People across The West Midlands are being urged to get checked out for the potentially life threatening condition Hepatitis C.

The disease effects the liver and can go on causing damage, undetected, for years.

The most common ways of getting Hep C are:

  • Having received a blood transfusion in the UK before 1992;
  • Sharing of drug use equipment, even snorting cocaine;
  • Breaking the skin with unsterilized equipment, such as tattooing or piercing;
  • Having received a medical or dental procedure abroad.

The advice is:

  • If you think you are at risk - get tested.
  • If you think a friend or family member may be at risk, encourage them to get tested.
  • If you know you have hep C, speak to your doctor.
