Twitter speculation forces couple to deny reports they are to separate.

Claims that Katy Perry has filed for divorce from husband Russell Brand have been dismissed as an "internet rumour".

Fans have been speculating about the couple's future after rumours began circulating on Twitter, promoting the couple to both trend on the micro-blogging website.

However, these claims have now been rubbished by Russell's spokespeople, who told a Sunday Mirror Showbiz journalist that they were an "internet rumour" that had "escalated out of control".

It is not the first time the couple's relationship has been thrust into the spotlight this year.

But in a recent interview, Katy told Capital FM that she was looking forward to completing her California Dreams world tour so she could spend more time with Russell.

She said: "He's excited to have me back again, but I always told him: 'Look buddy, I'm making a record and I know we're engaged now, but I'm making a record and then I've got to tour that record are you sure about this?'

"And we decided, 'Yeah we're sure about this, we can do it.' I'm not always going to be on the road, maybe once every three years or something."

Russell and Katy married last year just twelve months after they met at the MTV Video Music Awards.
