Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Baguley are appealing for witnesses.
Ian Taylor was found after police were called at about 11.15pm on Monday night (June 13) to Floatshall Road, following reports that a man had been shot.
Officers discovered the injured 44-year-old had been sitting in the passenger seat of a parked Citroen car when shots were fired into the vehicle.
He was taken to hospital but died a short time later. The driver of the car was uninjured.
A man sat in the drivers seat was uninjured.
Ian and his friend had been working on the Citreon over the past few days and had been playing his music quite loudly, and police are keen to speak to a group of girls who were seen speaking to Ian in the days leading up to his death, and on the day itself.
It is also believed Ian spoke to and was involved in some sort of altercation with a separate group of boys on the day he was killed and police would also like to speak to any of these individuals.
Police would also like to hear from anyone who might have seen the gunman, who was dressed in dark clothing and possibly a balaclava, who fled down the road opposite Floatshall Road after the shooting.
A man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Detective Superintendent Julian Ross, who is leading the investigation, said:
'We are actively pursuing a number of lines of inquiry following Ian's death.
'Because of that, I do not want to be drawn into what the motive for killing Ian might have been because until all those lines of inquiry have been fully investigated, we cannot say for certain what the motive was and to speculate would not be helpful.
'Ian's family deserve to know exactly what happened and so we need to build up as full a picture as we can about the days and hours leading up to Ian's death.
'We believe that Ian had been working on the Citreon over the last few days and had been playing his music quite loudly which had attracted attention, and we know that in the days leading up to his death, and on the day itself, Ian had been talking to a group of girls and then later another group of boys although it is not clear exactly what was said or what happened.
'Clearly they could be vital witnesses so I would appeal to anyone who saw Ian speaking to any of these people, or the individuals themselves, to come forward.
'If you were one of these people, then we really need to speak to you because you could be key to helping us give Ian's family the answers they need.
'I also want to appeal to anyone who might have seen a man dressed in dark clothing fleeing the scene after Ian was shot in his car.
'Officers are continuing to patrol the area so if you do know anything please come forward or you can speak to Crimestoppers in total confidence.'
A 32 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and released on bail.
