The 'California Gurls' star gave a military-inspired performance on the Fox talent series this week.

Katy Perry took to the stage on American Idol last night to perform her hit single 'Part Of Me'.

The 'Teenage Dream' singer sang in front of the live studio audience, as well as the show's judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson.

Katy entered the stage by parachuting down from the studio ceiling alongside a troupe of military-garbed female backing dancers for the marine-inspired performance.

The 'Firework' star was wearing a combat vest and camo skirt alongside her recently dyed purple hair.

Katy's performance of 'Part Of Me' featured an energetic dance breakdown halfway through the song, as well as a segment where the camera adopted a night vision lens to fit in with the military theme.

Katy Perry was confirmed last weekend as part of the line-up for the Capital FM Summertime Ball 2012, which takes place at Wembley Stadium on 9th June.
