On Air Now
The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill 7pm - 10pm
Ahead of her UK tour Jessie J talks about what inspired her debut album, advice for young performers and her huge plans for the future.
Jess who turns 23 on March 27th, has been cultivating her talents both on and off the stage but remembers how difficult it was to get the big break."
"It's really hard because I don’t ever disregard the fact that however hard you work it doesn’t always guarantee that it’s going to happen."
"But that’s the thing you have to believe, if you don’t believe in you, no one else will even bother to look at you. I shoved myself around any open mics, gigs, I’ve probably done, even up to now, 80-90% of my gigs for free."
"Surround yourself with people you can trust, that let you be you, compromise but don’t ever lose what makes you you, write from the heart, stay happy and always remember there’s always someone worse off than you. And there’s always someone that’s working harder than you as well."
"When you’re asleep there’s someone grafting, for every 10 CD’s your sending off, someone else is sending off 100. Just get yourself out there as much as you can, and film everything. You’ve gotta have fun as well, write it down, take pictures, make sure it’s a journey, the journey is way more important than where you end up."
In this video, recorded ahead of her UK tour (which begins in Glasgow on 31st March) Jessie J talks about what inspired her debut album, advice for young performers and her huge plans for the future.
