The 'One More Night' singer says he couldn't bring himself to watch his acting until he knew it was received well.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine says he has loved starring on the current season of American Horror Story but has only just plucked up the courage to watch himself in the FX horror series.

The 'Moves Like Jagger' star has a supporting role in the current series of Glee creator Ryan Murphy's second season of the popular horror show, but admits he finds scary films and television difficult to watch himself.

"It's really fun. I didn't really ever do anything like it at all [before]," Adam revealed on Anderson Live this week. "I don't consider myself to be an actor yet, I guess.

The 'Payphone' singer went on to recall how Ryan approached him about a role in the show during a dinner party.

"He asked me if I'd seen the show and I said no, because it's just completely disturbing and terrifying," Adam explained. "Scary stuff, it's almost like I don't need it in my head.

"[American Horror Story] is really well done though, it's an amazing show," Adam continued. "I didn't watch it myself until I had confirmation from my family and friends that I didn't suck."

Adam then admitted he struggled to get through the first twenty minutes of the current season because of how scary the show is.

Last week Maroon 5 performed their latest single 'Daylight' on The Voice US, on which Adam still serves as a vocal coach for the show.

Maroon 5 are set to appear as the next musical goes on this weekend's edition of Saturday Night Live (17th November).
