The 'Part Of Me' singer and her boyfriend were in Washington yesterday as the American leader began his second term.

Katy Perry and John Mayer were seen all smiles and seen chatting to members of the military as they attended Barack Obama's Inauguration in Washington DC yesterday (21st January).

The 'I Kissed A Girl' singer wore an orange and black striped jacket and a pair of sunglasses as she arrived alongside her musician boyfriend.

The male star opted for a smart dark suit and shades as he joined the 'Hot N Cold' star on Capitol Hill.

Katy had performed the night before at the annual Kids' Inaugural celebrations, where she gave renditions of some of her biggest hits wearing a dress made from the US flag.

John was also in attendance for the show, but sources told Us Magazine this week that he opted to stay in the background so he wouldn't steal the limelight.

"He wanted this to be her moment," an insider revealed.

Other stars in attendance included Jay-Z, who watched his wife Beyonce perform the National Anthem, and Kelly Clarkson, who also performed live at the show.

Lady Gaga is also rumoured to be headlining a special private ball for the US President and White House staff this evening (22nd January).
