The 'Who You Are' singer wanted to emulate the dance sound of the iconic pop singer's early material for her latest single.
Jessie J has revealed that Whitney Houston's classic dance track 'I Want To Dance With Somebody' inspired her to write new single 'Domino'.
The 'Price Tag' singer says her aim with 'Domino' was to create an innately happy song that people of all ages enjoy dancing to.
"Me, Claude [Kelly] and [Dr.] Luke sat and listened to Whitney Houston in the studio, and Prince," Jessie told Capital FM. "I was like, 'I want to write my version of that in this day and age.
"[We] wanted to do something up-tempo, fun, everyone can sing along to it, every age can dance to it," she explained. "It's such a happy song, it makes me smile."
'Domino' rose to the number one on the Vodafone Big Top 40 last week (15th January) after displacing former chart topper Flo Rida.
Jessie J said it was "amazing" and "a shock" to have so much support off her fans for the sixth single to be released from her debut album 'Who You Are'.
