The rumours rumble on over whether Cheryl Cole will land a place on the judging panel for the US series of The X-Factor.

Now, it's thought Simon Cowell has come up with a plan B, just in case it's good news.

The Sun is reporting that he'll offer her the chance to mentor his acts - like Sinitta does on the UK version.

He thinks that'll help the Girls Aloud singer to build her profile in the US in the first series - ahead of a possible promotion in year two.

Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry and Rihanna have all been mentioned as possible judges.
