The 'Call Me Maybe' singer says it's important to find what is "unique" about yourself and never give up.
Carly Rae Jepsen has offered some words of advice for contestants on music reality shows such as The Voice and The X Factor.
The singer first rose to fame with her appearance on Canadian Idol back in 2007 and has told any aspiring musicians who are looking to find success through a similar route to never give up and hone in on the qualities which make them different.
She told Capitalfm.com: "I think it's really important to find out what is unique and different about you and really hone in on that quality rather then try to hide it – I think that's going to be the thing that makes you stand out.
"And also, don't give up and don't let it be your one opportunity. Those can be doors that open or close, but it's just one of many doors."
The current Vodafone Big Top 40 number one star, who is signed to Justin Bieber's Schoolboy Records and has recorded with the singer, recently admitted that her collaboration with the 'Boyfriend' star is a "really chilled" song and could feature on her upcoming new album.
