A whole scandal…
The fashion industry is known for its scams (hello, £615 dirty Gucci trainers?!) but now people are accusing Pretty Little Thing and Topman of removing the labels from cheaper branded clothing and selling them as their own for double the price.
Last week, one Twitter user @katiewaddilove complained to Pretty Little Thing that they had cut the label out of her jogging bottoms alongside a photo. In the picture, there was a PLT label stitched in the seam of the joggers, but on one side were the remains of a Fruit of the Loom label.
Katie claimed Fruit of the Loom – who are known for making super cheap basics – sell their joggers for anything between £6 – £12, but PLT are selling the same pair for £20… ouch.
So @OfficialPLT are selling £6-£12 fruit of the loom joggers, cutting the labels out and charging £20 for products they haven’t even manufactured themselves???🤔 pic.twitter.com/x48FPtBli3

She tweeted: "So @OfficialPLT are selling £6-£12 fruit of the loom joggers, cutting the labels out and charging £20 for products they haven’t even manufactured themselves???
"& to ppl replying saying 'it’s business' or 'most brands do this' YES but usually they’ll add their own logos or designs, whereas PLT here have not only done a sloppy job removing the original labels but also not altered the product in any way to justify the >100% profits made!"
This isn’t the first time...I ordered a dress from them and they just covered the tag with a sticker but kept the other brands tag on😂😩 I was told not to return but to bin it 🗑 pic.twitter.com/NvKzhiCwk4

Same on my joggers, you can see where the old label is cut off and where they’ve stitched their label over the top😂 how bad, not gonna be shopping on pretty little thing anymore! pic.twitter.com/biPjVJZjki

Whilst it's not uncommon for companies to buy a wholesale product from a manufacturer and sell it on, they're usually customised to the brand's needs before being sold. Or, the label is at least cut out...
PopBuzz have contacted PrettyLittleThing and Topman for comment.
