Some Jeffree Star Mini Mystery Box customers expressed disappointment over receiving stickers in their box instead of a promised "exclusive" cosmetic item. Jeffree Star has now begun issuing refunds.
Jeffree Star says he will refund customers who purchased his Christmas 2019 Mini Mystery Box following complaints over some of the package's contents.
At the end of November, Jeffree Star announced that he would be releasing a Christmas-themed mystery box. The beauty influencer and YouTuber revealed that the limited edition boxes would be available in three tiers and a (now-deleted) flyer Jeffree posted on his Instagram indicated that "each box contains at least one exclusive mystery cosmetic item".

People who bought Jeffree's Mini, Premium, or Deluxe Christmas Mystery Boxes received a surprise combination of eyeshadow and highlighter palettes, bullet and liquid lipsticks, lip scrubs, Jeffree Star apparel, and a set of exclusive stickers. People who bought Premium or Deluxe boxes received more items and items of higher value, whereas Mini Box buyers were likely to receive lip scrubs, lipsticks, and stickers.
The stickers in the $20 Mini Mystery Box sparked the most debate from fans who expressed disappointment that the "exclusive" item they received was not actually a cosmetic item as the flyer had initially indicated.
Some fans took to social media to express their disappointment over receiving the stickers.
@JeffreeStar uhh kinda disappointed in my mystery box. Only got 2 things and some stickers. Idk if that’s the 3rd item but I’m highly disappointed, I was excited about this, please tag him so he can see pic.twitter.com/bkAvcvP7l3

Pretty disappointed at @JeffreeStar mini mystery box since it seems mine is less value the everyone else since I got a 12 dollar lip scrub while everyone else got an 18 dollar lip bullet. pic.twitter.com/qJ8pc4r3MV

@JeffreeStar I love your brand but this is false advertising as I only got two Cosmetics items in my mini mystery box and the mystery item was just stickers pic.twitter.com/sTCMyDHDtf

@JeffreeStar your flyer said that each box comes with an exclusive COSMETIC item, so why are there stickers instead of a cosmetic item 🥺#mysterybox #jeffreestarmysterybox pic.twitter.com/WfSovWwl2x

Others defended Jeffree, saying that people should appreciate what they received.

Jeffree responded to one of the complaints in a now-deleted tweet directed at a fan.
He tweeted: "I showed your message to the guy that spent hours drawing those stickers, he said you are rude and disgusting. My holiday collection was with Shane, mystery boxes are fun and...a mystery. Get over yourself, the entitlement is gross."
Jeffree Star has now begun to issue refunds for the Mini Mystery Boxes.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics began sending out emails late last week indicating that refunds would be issued and undelivered boxes would be shipped as planned.
"You will be receiving a refund for your Mini Mystery Box that was purchased during our Black Friday Sale, your order IS NOT CANCELLED. Your order will be shipped as planned," the email read.

"We here at Jeffree Star Cosmetics made the decision to make the refund as well as still send the Mini Mystery Box to everyone due to our miscommunication regarding the contents of the 'Mini Mystery Box' sold during the Black Friday sale. An initial posting should have stated 'every box contains at least 1 exclusive item', but due to our error said, 'every box contains at least 1 exclusive cosmetic item'."
It's all in a day's work for Jeffree who often addresses controversies and mishaps associated with his launches. Recently, the influencer revealed he'd received "death threats" over an idea he had to restock his limited edition Peppermint Frost palette.
