James Charles announces reality show beauty competition with $50,000 prize
16 November 2019, 12:02
James Charles told his 16.3 million YouTube subscribers on Friday (Nov. 15) that he has been working on a new beauty competition show that will see six contestants compete for a cash prize and the chance to become the next big influencer.
James Charles has had a whirlwind year. The 20-year-old beauty guru was at the centre of this year's most talked-about YouTube feud. In October, James also defended himself against a small backlash to his recently released Morphe mini collection. Despite the ongoing (and seemingly neverending) dramas of the beauty influencer world, James is steadily expanding his repertoire. James Charles announced yesterday (Nov. 15) that he will be filming and executive producing a beauty competition show.

James, who has 16.3 million subscribers on YouTube, revealed that the competition show will air as a YouTube original in Spring 2020. He did not announce the show's name, but the winner of the competition will receive $50,000 plus other as-yet-revealed prizes.

When it comes to the rules and criteria, James explained that contestants will be tested on their "artistry" and "uniqueness", as well as their "ability to captivate an audience". Anyone who wishes to be considered for the competition has to meet a few eligibility requirements, as well.
What are the rules for James Charles' beauty competition?
Firstly, they need to be a U.S. resident who is 18 years of age or older. They also need to have an active YouTube channel. To enter, competition hopefuls will need to film a "chit chat get ready with me" video where they introduce themselves and demonstrate their makeup skills. After editing, the video must not exceed five minutes in length.
Entrants will also need to visit http://jamescharlescasting.com to submit a final application. All this must be completed by November 21.
Six applicants will be selected and flown to Los Angeles to compete for the $50,000 cash prize.
James says that this competition show has been three years in the making. James also hinted that fans will be excited about the competition judges.
On Friday, he thanked fans for their support. "This show has been one of my biggest dreams since DAY 1. I've learned SO much over the past few years and have been so blessed to grow the platform I have, and now I CANNOT WAIT to pass along that knowledge and help a few deserving artists grow their platform, too," he tweeted.
