Fans are speaking out after the band was named a "straight pride" band in an article.
The internet is still trying to get its head around the idea that a “straight pride parade” might be happening and now Twenty One Pilots have been dragged into the drama.
In case you missed it, far-right personality and vice-president of Super Happy Fun America - a group that fights for “straight rights” - has recently announced plans to host a Straight Pride parade in Boston, much to the amusement of many of us online and inspiring a number of hilarious memes.

And now Twenty One Pilots have somehow joined the jokes thanks to a satirical Washington Post article which envisions what Straight Pride would look like.
“The first float is a hot tub with two bros sitting in it, five feet apart, because they are not gay!” it reads. “Next come hundreds of dads in flannel, furiously chopping wood because they are unsure how to connect with their sons about their feelings. Next comes a bachelorette party that has gotten lost on its way to a gay bar to grope the patrons and talk about how welcome they feel in the space...”
And then, it says, “Next comes Twenty One Pilots”, much to the amusement of many of the band's fans who pointed out their history of supporting LGBT rights.
SINCE WHEN THE FUCK DID TWENTY ONE PILOTS SAY THAT STRAIGHT PRIDE PARADE WAS A GOOD IDEA, NEVER, DON'T DRAG A BAND THAT HAS DONE NOTHING BUT GOOD TO THIS WORLD INTO THIS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS PIC IS ON THE INTERNET pic.twitter.com/niJUtIcva2

I would have supported this Article until you claimed Twenty One Pilots were homophobic by saying they'll be playing any part in this "straight pride" bs. Both Tyler & Josh have been strong & firm supporters of the LGBT Community. I want to know what lead you to think otherwise pic.twitter.com/vGy1WcxOy2

This is lead singer of twenty one pilots @tylerrjoseph. This is how he shows support for the LGBTQ+ community. I'm bisexual and I'm a fan of this band. I wouldn't support a band that doesn't support me. So, the conclusion is simple: research information, please pic.twitter.com/ktbXSj0yVT

You may think that but tbh a large percentage, if not the majority of the fandom is actually LBGT+ aka why you’re getting such a visceral reaction from so many of the LGBT+ fans and their allies. No hate but you were pretty off the mark on tøp (I’ll give you the others tho lol)

lmao funny how you think Twenty One Pilots is homophobic. that’s why tyler’s worn the pride flag at a concert. that’s why josh has made a post solely based on how he has friends of all sexualities and races etc. that’s why josh and tyler platonically flirt in interviews. fuck off

The author of the article, Alexandra Petri, soon wrote back to fans, claiming she meant the article to simply be a “hodgepodge of straight culture” and she “certainly wasn’t saying everything in the parade was homophobic.”

And to that, one fan had this fitting response, to which we say... fair enough!
