Shakira Welcomes Birth Of New Baby Milan

The 'She Wolf' singer and her Barcelona footballer boyfriend confirmed the arrival in a statement on her website.

Shakira and Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique have welcomed the birth of their son, Milan.

The couple's first child – full name Milan Pique Mebarak - was born yesterday evening in Barcelona, Spain.

In a statement, the couple said: "Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.

"The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification."

Milan weight 6lb 6oz at birth, and both Shakira and her new son are said to be in "excellent health".

Shakira released her last album 'Sale el Sol' in 2010. At present, it is not clear when the 'She Wolf' singer will be releasing the follow-up.
