"Old town road is literally about horses"
Lil Nas X had a hilarious response to tweets that suggested 'Old Town Road' was about gay sex following his coming out announcement yesterday (July 2).
In case you missed it, the 'Old Town Road' rapper came out to his fans in a series of tweets on the last day of Pride month (June 30). Lil Nas X revealed that he had left clues about his sexuality in the lyrics to his song 'C7osure' from his new EP, 7.
"Some of y'all already know, some of y'all don't care," he tweeted, alongside a rainbow emoji. "But before this month ends I want y'all to listen closely to c7osure."

While most of the internet was overwhelmingly supportive of Lil Nas X, there were a number of people who seized upon the opportunity to make homophobic and ignorant remarks. A number of those responses were making the same joke that 'Old Town Road' is about gay sex, pointing to a number of lyrics which - if you're reaching - could have some euphemistic interpretations about gay sex.
Lil Nas X was having none of it.
The rapper took to Twitter to clarify the meaning of the song. He tweeted: "Old town road is literally about horses"

A little more cryptic than his other tweets, Lil Nas X then tweeted: "just cuz iβm gay donβt mean iβm not straight"

It's sad, but perhaps not surprisingly, some people have negatively responded to Lil Nas X's coming out.
But his fans have been there to support him, and have even been making memes to call out the homophobic abuse that's been posted online.
