Troye's been spilling the tea all over the place.
Praise the lords of Good Music as Troye Sivan has finally dropped his new single 'My My My!' (Jan 10) with a stunning video directed by Grant Singer.
Troye Sivan - My My My!
Hot damn that video is making us sweat.
Troye has been teasing fans for at least a month with images from the video and tweets about new music 'coming very soon' and it's finally here we can say it's definitely been worth the wait.
While a lot of attention will be paid to that jaw-dropping video, it's worth taking a deeper dive into the lyrics. Troye is a great lyric writer and his songs are always worth a closer reading and this new single is no different.
'My My My!' finds Troye in a state of ecstasy. He's in love and the song is like an explosion of pure joy straight from the chest. "Oh my, my, my! I die every night with you. Oh my, my, my! Living for your every move". Troye is, of course, talking about his boyfriend Jacob Bixenman. The pair have been dating for over a year.
There's also a sexy side to the song. "I got my tongue between your teeth. Go slow, no, no, go fast, you like it just as much as me". No prizes for guessing what that line might be about! 💦
But where did the inspiration for the song title, and the lyric 'my, my, my!' come from? Troye revealed the origins and inspiration behind the song in an interview with Zane Lowe on his Apple Music show yesterday (Jan 10) and it all started with a conversation with songwriter Leland, who is a regular collaborator on Troye's music (he co-wrote 'Youth', 'Talk Me Down' and a number of other songs on Blue Neighbourhood).
"Leland was chucking around lyric ideas", Troye told Zane. "And I'm like super super in love and just really really happy and he said the words 'My, my, my!' and it just felt like...I was looking for that exhale of relief and liberation and excitement. I was looking for a phrase that summed up that feeling of complete freedom. And so he said it, and I was like oh my god that is so good."
So it was actually Leland who actually came up with the phrase 'my, my my', but it was Troye who decided it should go in the song. For Troye, those three words just fitted perfectly into place with what he wanted to express about his relationship. "I loved the way it looked, I loved the way it sounded coming out of my mouth, it just felt good. So we started writing this song with the right team and at every step I was very cautiously making these minute changes until I was so ecstatic that day when I listened to the demo round my hotel room. It totally was [emotional]."
