Halsey reveals how they met their partner Alev Aydin
Are Kelsea Ballerini’s Doin’ My Best lyrics about Halsey? The meaning behind the Subject to Change song explained.
Kelsea Ballerini has just released a new song and fans believe her 'Doin' My Best' lyrics take aim at her collaborator Halsey.
Today (Sep 23), Kelsea Ballerini dropped her highly anticipated fourth studio album Subject to Change. The project contains the hit single 'Heartfirst', as well as a collaboration with Kelly Clarkson. Kelsea began writing the record in lockdown and it heavily explores her marriage to fellow country singer Morgan Evans who she recently announced that she's divorcing.

However, one song on the album appears to reference Halsey and it implies that the stars are no longer friends anymore.
Fans of Kelsea and Halsey will already know that the two singers worked together on the hit duet 'The Other Girl' in 2020. In it, Kelsea and Halsey sing about a man who is cheating on both of them with each other. Kelsea and Halsey appeared to be close friends at the time and they even performed 'The Other Girl' together at the CMT Awards together that same year.
Fast forward to now and it looks as though Kelsea and Halsey have fallen out. In 'Doin My Best', Kelsea sings "2020 was a weird year", then in the second verse she adds: "I was friends with a pop star / I put 'em on track four, but / Wish I could take it back, I would've nevеr asked / If I knew we wouldn't talk anymorе."
While Kelsea doesn't mention Halsey by name, fans have spotted that 'The Other Girl' is track four on her previous album. Not to mention, Kelsea has never collaborated with any other pop stars, except for Kelly Clarkson, who appears on her current album.
As a whole, the song appears to be about embracing your past mistakes and putting your best foot forward.

Someone also tweeted: "I think the saddest part of subject to change was finding out kelsea and Halsey aren’t friends anymore".

I was wondering if Kelsea was still friends with Halsey, but I guess Doin’ My Best cleared that up for me 👀 pic.twitter.com/Ck3OX3NL4L

VERSE 1
2020 was a weird year
Album dropped at a weird time
Ain't the homecoming queen but better believe I cried
And therapy for one turned
Into therapy for two
When you get married that young, you got a lotta shit you gotta get through
PRE-CHORUS
If I said I had it all together, I'd be lyin'
But I'll die tryin'
CHORUS
I'm doin' my best
I'm lettin' the rest roll off my shoulders, baby
Don't always get it right
Hey, and that's alright
That's what I'm learnin' lately, I keep
Growin' up, I keep
Rollin' up my sleeves and I think
That showin' up is good enough for me
VERSE 2
I was friends with a pop star
I put 'em on track four, but
Wish I could take it back, I would've nevеr asked
If I knew we wouldn't talk anymorе
Sometimes I try to say the right thing
And it comes out wrong
And Twitter kicked my ass, now it's one less app on my iPhone, yeah
PRE-CHORUS
If I said I had it all together, I'd be lyin'
Yeah, but I'll die tryin'
CHORUS
I'm doin' my best
I'm lettin' the rest roll off my shoulders, baby
Don't always get it right
Hey, and that's alright
That's what I'm learnin' lately, I keep
Growin' up, I keep
Rollin' up my sleeves and I think
That showin' up is good enough for me
BRIDGE
I live in my head 'til the sun's up
Even I can admit that it's fucked up
And you're pushing for perfect your whole life
And it didn't work out
But, damn it, I tried
CHORUS
I'm doin' my best
I'm lettin' the rest roll off my shoulders, baby
Don't always get it right (I'm doin' my—)
And that's alright (I'm doin' my best)
That's what I'm learnin' lately, I keep (I'm doin' my—)
Growin' up, I keep (I'm doin' my best)
Rollin' up my sleeves and I think (I'm doin' my—)
That showin' up is good enough for me (I'm doin' my best)
OUTRO
(I'm doin' my—)
(I'm doin' my best)
(I'm doin' my—)
(I'm doin' my best—)
